What did your grandmother used to do that you don’t?
Our lives are very different to our grandparents lives. Technology and appliances that have been designed to make our lives easier, are doing so at the expense of our health.
Ask yourself, “What did my Grandma used to do that I don’t?”
She walked to the shops
She cooked. My kid had to at a school assignment recently that required him to ask someone older that him what was different when they grew up. He asked his Grandma (my mum). She said that they ate take-away food two-nights a year. They ate at home 363 nights of year. Once a year they had KFC. The other take-away meal was Chinese food. They had to take their own saucepans to the Chinese shop to bring the food home, because there were no plastic takeaway containers back then.
She washed her own clothes, probably using a washboard. We now have a washing machine and a dryer
She washed dishes by hand
She cleaned her own house
Grandad mowed his own lawn. The idea of paying someone to mow the lawn would have been considered ridiculous.
Today families are more likely to have both parents working, possibly even both working full-time so that we can afford all the “essentials” i.e. overseas trip each year, private school, the latest model BMW X5, etc.
We are missing out and all that incidental exercise like washing our own car, cleaning our own house, mowing our own lawn. We’re more likely to pay someone to do these things.
