Nutrition 101 – what you need to know

Nutrition can be a tough topic.

Many people over-complicate it. Giving advice about macronutrients or ketogenesis to a person with limited nutritional knowledge is usually unnecessary and unhelpful.

Sure, some people have food allergies and intolerances, but here are some basic rules to follow that will work for almost everyone.

  • The less “processed” a food the better. My rule is that ½ your food should come from the fridge, ¼ from the fruit (and veg) and bowl and less than ¼ from the cupboard

  • All food is made up of proteins, fats and carbohydrates (carbs)

  • Water is key for cell function. Most headaches are caused by poor hydration.

  • When calculating your daily water intake remember that coffee is not water. Tea is not water. Coke is not water. Water is water

  • Diets don’t work. Diet works

  • If it came from the earth it’s probably healthy

  • Have something green with every meal

  • Each meal or snack should contain some protein
